The Anderson Story Slam holds bi-monthly story telling events at McGee’s Irish Pub in Anderson,SC. Our “story slams” feature several storytellers, each sharing a five minute true story. These true stories are drawn from the storyteller’s personal experiences and are told without notes. Judges choose a winners and a small prizes are given.

The Backporch Storytellers is a non-profit organization, serving as a support group for adult storytellers. It is a resource group for people interested in oral literature. The purposes of the group are: to preserve and perpetuate the ancient art of storytelling, and to preserve the multi-cultural stories of the Old South, including the Sea Island and Gullah stories. Membership dues are $25 annually.

Clemson Area StoryTellers (CAST) Guild promotes and celebrates the art of Storytelling. The purpose of CAST is the preservation of oral narratives - stories passed down from generation to generation - for families and the community. We also celebrate the performance of stories for all ages, children to adults. We meet the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7 pm, the ARTS Center, Clemson (go to www.explorearts.org for directions.)

Frances Fleming Chavous is the project director/producer of Salkehatchie Stew, which is gathering, preserving, and sharing the stories from the five county Salkehatchie region of South Carolina (Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton, and Hampton counties). Stew cultivates storytellers and storytelling through events and community performance plays based on local stories.

Our flagship program, Owning Their Words, is a language arts curriculum that enables children to develop their oral and written skills through storytelling.  Developed in conjunction with South Carolina State Education Standards, Owning Their Words is a powerful teaching tool that fosters an appreciation for the oral tradition while at the same time, profoundly enhancing students' ability to become more effective communicators.

Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast (SACS) is a non-profit organization supporting and promoting storytelling as well as traditional and folk art and music. SACS presents two signature events annually – The Bold-Faced Liar's Showdown (January) and The Storytelling Festival of the Carolinas (Spring). Each event is held in Laurinburg NC and features nationally-recognized storytellers such as Carmen Agra Deedy, Andy Offutt Irwin, Doug Elliott, Michael Reno Harrell, and many others.
